Lupek

Craft Information - W4 Arrival

Lupek is a rover that will someday be deployed to Mun. It is the KSA's first rover and the team developing it has worked up some automated driving software to allow it to drive itself around. The software has already managed to get Lupek over 300km in previous drives, and now the team is finally ready to turn the rover loose across Kerbin with a full suite of instruments and sensors as it will be equipped when roving around Mun. Previously the rover traveled with a pace vehicle alongside for fast code patches and better monitoring, but now the rover is setting out completely on its own.

After a drive of 142.2km Lupek made it to its final waypoint in the west shore desert. The rover team made a lot of changes to the code and are very pleased with how the rover is operating in various slope situations. After losing the battery, the rover had no further troubles that caused damage. It also properly aborted a slope it was unable to climb, thankfully although the slope was steep it wasn't that high, as a previous code update disabled its ability to brake on the way down! The rover will be picked up for fast transport back to KSC for further evaluation.
